The Role
As Director of Actuarial Services, you will be responsible for leading the actuarial function, guiding financial modeling, and supporting strategic decision-making related to employer-sponsored healthcare benefits and cost management. Reporting to the CEO, you will oversee forecasting, contract reconciliations, and financial risk analysis, ensuring alignment with FlyteHealth’s mission to drive sustainable, patient-centric obesity care. This is a highly visible role that requires collaboration with the Executive Team, Board, cross-functional teams, and external employer and health system partners.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Forecasting & Actuarial Leadership
- Develop and maintain cost projections and savings forecasts related to employer-sponsored healthcare benefits.
- Provide guidance on performance forecast credibility and revenue realization for employer clients.
- Lead financial reconciliation processes for employer-based agreements, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.
Risk Analysis & Strategic Insights
- Identify and evaluate areas of potential cost inefficiencies, working alongside clinical and operational teams to uncover root causes and drive improvements.
- Quantify financial and risk trade-offs in different employer benefit structures, providing key insights to executive leadership.
- Support the development of financial models linking FlyteHealth’s clinical and operational activities to financial outcomes.
- Understand and implement reporting methodologies affiliated with actuarial science, including cost-benefit analyses related to medication claims and medical care claims.
Research & Analytics
- Assist internal and external resources in research studies conducted by FlyteHealth and its employer and health system partners.
- Develop actuarial analyses to support innovative obesity care models and improve financial sustainability.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and mentor an actuarial team, fostering a culture of analytical excellence and continuous learning.
- Ensure the team’s work aligns with FlyteHealth’s broader strategic objectives and business needs.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience & Expertise
- 5+ years of actuarial experience in healthcare, with a focus on employer-sponsored benefits, medical economics (pharmacy and medical claims), and commercial payer plans.
- ASA or FSA designation required.
- Strong understanding of employer healthcare data, claims analysis, and payer-provider financial arrangements.
- Experience with reserving and forecasting performance under employer-sponsored health plans.
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Proficiency in SQL, SAS, Python, R, or other analytical tools for healthcare claims data analysis.
- Expertise in Excel financial modeling to evaluate cost-of-care impacts of clinical interventions.
- Familiarity with BI tools like Looker, Tableau, or QlikSense.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to translate complex actuarial concepts into strategic insights for executive audiences.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly in working with data, clinical, and finance teams.
- Experience mentoring junior team members and fostering professional development.
